Apple has revealed midweek that its incoming iOS16 features will now include a Lockdown Mode to preventing hacking and all forms attacks. unfortunately, the latest innovation will not be available in older devices.
“Apple is previewing a groundbreaking security capability that offers specialized additional protection to users who may be at risk of highly targeted cyberattacks from private companies developing state-sponsored mercenary spyware. Apple is also providing details of its $10 million grant to bolster research exposing such threats,” a statement added.
“Apple makes the most secure mobile devices on the market. Lockdown Mode is a groundbreaking capability that reflects our unwavering commitment to protecting users from even the rarest, most sophisticated attacks,” said Ivan Krstić, Apple’s head of Security Engineering and Architecture.
“While the vast majority of users will never be the victims of highly targeted cyberattacks, we will work tirelessly to protect the small number of users who are. That includes continuing to design defenses specifically for these users, as well as supporting researchers and organizations around the world doing critically important work in exposing mercenary companies that create these digital attacks.”
What is Lockdown Mode?
Apple said the new feature called Lockdown Mode will put to an end all hacking attempts and spyware attacks in iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It added that the much-awaited feature is “an extreme, optional protection for the very small number of users who face grave, targeted threats to their digital security.”
What iPhones will update iOS 16?
According to reports, the feature will be available on iPhone 8 models, iPhone XR, and newer models released after 2017.
This means that the older and very reliable iPhone 6 and 7 models cannot support iOS 16.
IT News Nigeria also gathered that the official release of iOS 16 will be 2 or 3 months ahead and very likely in September when Apple usually unveil new devices. It is only presently used by those in beta mode.

Lockdown Mode also provides protections from blocking attachments, link previews in certain messages, vulnerable web browsing technologies, and incoming FaceTime calls from unknown numbers.
How to enable Lockdown Mode
According to USToday, for those who have iOS 16 in beta mode, here’s what you can do:
Launch “Settings” on your Apple device; Then tap “Privacy & Security.” Next, scroll down to the bottom and tap Lockdown Mode to turn the feature on. Read the related information about Lockdown Mode and then scroll down to tap “Turn On Lockdown Mode.”
From there, “Tap Turn On and Restart” to confirm and enable, or otherwise tap “Cancel” to not enable the feature.
