Social media giant Twitter has been unavailable to millions of users across the globe. The outage occurred at 8:20am GMT on the 19th of January, 2016, reports IT News Africa.
Visitors to the social media platform, via mobile and web, have been greeted by the following message: “Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing — we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.”
According to the company’s online status page, Twitter is still currently suffering service issues. The company initially confirmed the outage by tweeting, from its @support account; however, many users could not view the tweet.
According to The Guardian access to the service began failing over the web, mobile and its API (application programming interface, the system that applications use to speak to the Twitter service) at the above mentioned time with error messages warning that the network is both “over capacity” and suffering an “internal error.”
Twitter is still down in various parts of the world; however, the service is essentially coming back online slowly.
