2017 .ng Awards: NiRA Calls For Nominations

To Qualify:
• Participants must have registered & active online with .ng domain
• Domain name must have been registered for over 6 months.
• The website associated with the Domain name must be active on the internet
• Nomination commences 31 January
• Nomination closes at midnight February 14
• Voting starts February 20 and closes midnight 3rd April
• Open to company, organisation or individual

Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) has announced the beginning of nominations for its 2017 .ng Awards to be held in April, according to President of the regulator.
Mr. Sunday Folayan said in Lagos on Tuesday that the event is aimed at recognising and acknowledge those who are contributing to the growth of the .ng domain name registration and the promotion of DNS industry.
The maiden Award as held in 2016 during the most publicised NiRA 10th anniversary activities.
According to him, “using the .ng Awards, NiRA celebrates the achievements and innovation of Nigerian internet initiatives.Awards aim to showcase Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organisations which help to make the internet more secure, open, accessible, and rewarding experience for all. NiRA acknowledges the great work being done out there and desire people to know talk about it, engage with it and put it into the spotlight.”
IT NEWS NIGERIA gathered that every nominee must meet the Awards criteria for the 2017 .ng Awards.
Criteria are : The online presence must be outstanding; Company, organisation or individual must have registered and is active online with .ng domain name(s); Domain name must have been registered for over 6 months; and The website associated with the Domain name must be active on the internet
Nomination for the .ng Awards by the general public commences by Tuesday, 31 January 2017.
Furthermore, NiRA said “the jury will review all entries/ nominations for eligibility and qualification to produce the final shortlist of nominees. The list nominees will be released for general public voting via the website.”
The Award Committee my reclassify or re-categorise entries and may remove entries that do not conform to the entry requirement. Entries that differ substantially from the award criteria will be disqualified without prior notice to the entrants.
Nomination closes at midnight on Tuesday February 14, 2017. Voting starts on Monday, February 20, 2017 and closes by midnight on Monday , 3rd April, 2017.

The .ng string is a critical National resource and Nigeria’s unique identity on the world wide web. NiRA, as an industry-led stakeholder organisation, is the registry for Nigerian Internet Domain Names (.ng), and maintains the database of the names registered in the .ng country code Top Level Domain ( ccTLD) name space in the interest of Nigerians and the global internet community.
