OLX Urges Nigerians To Go Green To Mark World Environment Day

Leading online classifieds site, OLX.com.ng has Urged Nigerians to go green to celebrate world Environment Day, a statement said today.

It added that it recently partnered with Climate Stewards to celebrate World Environment Day by giving a detailed report on how transactions on the site has helped reduce the effect of carbon emissions on the environment. The theme for this year’s celebration is Connecting People to Nature.

Marketing Manager, OLX; Fifemayo Aiyesimoju stated that “At OLX we believe that sustainable consumption – selling and buying of used goods instead of purchasing new ones is a great way to create a healthy and clean and environment for us all.

Aiyesimoju also added that due to the effect of Climate Change which can be observed by off season rains and dry spells, it is more important than ever to protect the environment we live in. This is why OLX is creating awareness about how re-using items ensures every Nigerian can play their part in protecting the environment.

According to the research conducted by Climate Stewards and OLX, last year transactions on the OLX platform helped prevent the emission of 1.3million tonnes of CO2 which is equivalent to you flying around the world 160,000 times.

To further put things into perspective it’s also equivalent to 17,000 tankers worth of petrol.

Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere due to the activities of a particular individual, organisation, or community.

Every time one sells a product on OLX, the life of the product gets extended. Every time one buys a used product, one less item gets produced, lowering CO2 emissions.

Other categories such as fashion and beauty, hobbies, arts and sports, real estate and jobs were not included.
