IT NEWS NIGERIA:
President Mohammadu Buhari has on wednesday shutdown the proposed Information and Communications Technology (ICT) University, the supposed only achievement of Minister Adebayo Shittu, for financial reasons, Our Correspondent can learn.
Following the rejection of the Memo of the Honourable Minister of Communications by the Federal Executive Council, Government said it cannot afford to fund a new university at a time current universities are underfunded.
In his reaction, Shittu said “the Federal Executive Council believes that the proposed partnership funding by the private sector and other international donors should be more evident. For me, maybe the Federal Government did not see what I saw but since we are in a democracy, I cannot force my ideas on the majority because it is a game of minority have their say but majority have their way”.
Shittu, however, told Digivation Network he will rally the private sector to invest in the noble vision of an ICT University.
“Since we do not need to build new campuses from the scratch but run on existing currently used by the Digital Bridge Institute, I believe we can revisit the initiative.”
The development has put a question mark on the achievement of Barr Shittu as a minister of Communications in the past two years especially as he declared his intention to be the next governor of Oyo state comes 2019.
