NSA, CBN, Adeosun, Others To Brainstorm At National ICT- Cyber Security Conference

Organizers of National ICT-Cyber Security Conference have announced that the Office of the National Security Adviser, Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Godwin Emefiele and more organizations have expressed interest and confirm participation in the forth coming event, according to a statement.

It added that the event which is an initiative of the Senate Committee on Information Communication Technology and Cybercrime is intended to bring together the public to the first National Plenary conference on ICT, digital literacy and Cyber-threat.

 

The conference which is slated to hold from November 6 – 9, 2017 will take place at Zeus Paradise, Mabuchi, by Setraco, Abuja.

IT NEWS NIGERIA gathered that other key participants at the conference are Speaker House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, Honourable Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, and Managing Directors of leading IT companies including, Microsoft Nigeria, Systemspec, Rack Centre and Huawei as well as Chief Executive Officers of many of Nigeria’s commercial banks.

 

Director of Communications for the conference, Bayero Agabi, is quoted as saying that “the aim of the event is to bring together end-users, practitioners and educators, researchers to exchange and share experiences in-order to present and discuss the trends, concerns, challenges and solutions adopted in the ever changing world of ICT.”

 

Some of the speakers already confirmed include: The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President (Dr) Bukola Saraki, and Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT Senator Abdulfatai Buhari. Others are Prof. Raj Siriram University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa, Mallam Adamu Adamu Honourable Minister of Education, Mounaim Makhtari, Regional Sales Director, Pearson Vue Belgium.

 

The event is convoked basically to stimulate a collective reflection on the issues critical to the development of the sector. Speaking on the expected participants, Bayero said relevant government agencies, private organisations, local and international development partners, civil society and non-governmental organizations and the general public are already signifying interest in participating.

 

 

The Conference will obtain and articulate views on the theme: Nigeria’s ICT Development and Cyber Threats Management: Resolving Challenges for Greater Opportunities. Ultimately, the conference is expected to identify gaps inherent in the system, generate appropriate synergy in the relationships of stakeholders with a view to ensuring consistency and articulate a structured approach to resolving the challenges.

The Senate Committee on ICT, which is charged with legislative oversight responsibility over ICT development and cyber-crime control in Nigeria, finds it utmost important to galvanize regular consultations among a wide spectrum of stakeholders and the general public with a view to re-tuning the system so that information technology can indeed be effectively deployed in Nigeria and cyber criminality squarely faced.
