Nigerian Communications Commission announced that another edition of the ongoing Consumer Conversation was held at the weekend at Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area Headquarters.

Consumer Conversation is part of the a programme of the 2017 Year of the Nigerian Telecom Consumer instituted by the NCC to deepen engagement with stakeholders, particularly the telecom consumers.

Organised by the Lagos Zonal Office of the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Conversation, which took place at Ado-Odo Ota LGA secretariat, Ogun State, had an attendance and participation that was quite novel and having no precedent.

Matters of interest to the Nigerian telecom consumers such as quality of service and how to management it as well as efforts of the Commission to tackle associated challenges of telecom service provision were discussed in a particularly lively manner. Attendees now know that by activating the 2442 Do Not Disturb Short Code they can manage better the unsolicited messages they receive on their devices.

Similarly, participants were also informed of the need to utilise the 622 Toll Free Line provided by the NCC to enable consumers to escalate unresolved complaints they may have reported to their service providers. Staff of the Commission present at the event also used the opportunity of the forum to correct impressions bandied about that telecom masts.

They told the participants that there is no scientific evidence yet that proved that base stations or masts are injurious to health.

Besides the staff of NCC and other key telecom stakeholders such as the representatives of Mobile Network Operators, many governmental agencies and community leaders including Honourable Yomi Joda, Leader of the Legislative Council of Ado-Odo Ota LGA; Chief Osunlabu, Ekerin of Ota and Chairman of Regency Council; Chief Isiaka Balogun, the Balogun of Ota; Alhaji Sodiq Busari, Chief Imam of Ota; other Members of the Local Government Area Legislative Council; Director of Information at the LGA; Representatives of Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security, Nigerian Immigration Service and the National Orientation Agency, attended and participated at the Conversation.
