The Nigerian Communications Commission yesterday hosted a broad spectrum of stakeholders at a workshop – the Third Industry Working Group on Forum on Electronic Banking Fraud in Nigeria – at the Nigerian Bar Association House in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Fidelia Onah, NCC’s Director of Technical Standards and Network Integrity (TSNI), who represented Ubale Maska, NCC’s Executive Commissioner Technical Services, told the participants that the workshop was organised to sensitive all persons in Nigeria about challenges of electronic banking in order to safeguard the integrity of all financial services.

Onah’s deputy at TSNI Department, Bako Wakil, who made a presentation on the history of collaboration among stakeholders to address the challenges of electronic transactions informed the audience about series of inputs, outputs and outcomes of the collaborative activities of NCC, CBN, Mobile Network Operators, Banks and other stakeholders in that regard.

Other experts including Dr. Adewale Banjoko of GF Forensics, as well as Bola Adisa and Stefan Prinsloo of Computer Warehouse Group also made presentations on dimensions of electronic transactions and how to safeguard online financial service and processes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was represented by Abdullahi Mohammed Hassan at the workshop which was attended by many stakeholders including representatives of banks and MNOs as well as representatives of the Civil Society. Two workshops on electronic banking fraud organised by the NCC had taken place earlier in the year in Lagos and Kano.
