NCC Holds 36th Edition Of Consumer Town Hall Meeting In Jalingo, Taraba State




In keeping with one of it’s cardinal objectives and one item of the Management’s 8-Point Agenda to Protect- Inform & Educate Consumers of Telecoms services, the Nigerian Communications Commission hosted the 36th Edition of Consumer Town Hall Meeting at the Shield’s Hotel Capstone Meeting Hall in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital.


The theme of the event: “ Information and Education as a Catalyst for Consumer Protection” , sensitized consumers on the Do-not- Disturb 2442 Code to stop unsolicited text messages; when to use NCC Toll Free Line 622 to escalate complaints unresolved by Service providers and as well as educate Consumers on masts and towers & non-harmfulness of ELectromagnetic radiation (EMR). Quality of Service (QoS), Right of Way (RoW); Multiple taxation and Multiple regulation are other issues discussed at this event.


Abdullahi Maikano, Director Consumer Affairs Bureau, represented by Ismail Adedigba, Deputy Director in the Department welcomed participants and urged them to share their experiences, make meaningful observations/recommendations and ask objective questions regarding the industry that can help improve the regulation of the industry; while Hafiz Shehu, Head Protocol at NCC educated participants on Servicom and Consumer Bill of Rights.


The event was well attended by stakeholders from different segments of the industry; most importantly by representatives of GSM Service providers, the Consumers and the Regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission.


The event concluded with a question and answer session which made it interestingly interactive.
