A delegation comprising six top Management of the University of Jos pays a courtesy call to the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission on May 23, 2018 to seek partnership in the area of Big Data Analytics, ICT, IoT, and Cyber Security.
The delegation led by Professor Theresa Nmadu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of the University of Jos, stated that this visit is premised on establishing a relationship with the Commission and aimed at identifying areas of collaboration with the Commission and expressed readiness to partner with the Research and Development Department of the Commission to come up with innovative technologies that will help the advancement of humanity and help curb cybercrimes and, train youths in ICT so that they could be self- dependent.
The DVC Administration, University of Jos, also noted that in addition to identifying areas of collaboration and workability, she is happy to inform the EVC/ CEO NCC of his nomination for Honourary PHD Award scheduled to hold on Saturday June, 23, 2018 at the University of Jos. She noted that a letter was forwarded earlier in the month and that this reminder should not come as a surprise.
Executive Vice Chairman/ CEO, NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta expressed appreciation to the delegation’s visit and finding NCC worthy of Award, stating that any award to him is an award to the Commission.
Professor Danbatta, stated that the Commission is committed to fulfilling its mandate and doing whatever it is that will advance the telecoms industry, the society, and support innovative technologies that will help youths become gainfully employed, improve government sources of revenue through diversification in ICT in line with the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan of the Federal Government.
The EVC commended predecessor CEOs of NCC in their efforts of providing an enabling infrastructure, regulations and support initiatives and, it is expected that successive CEOs’ should identify areas of development and growth through proactive regulations and strategies that are implementable, impact generating and spring a multiplier of effects in the industry that will expand the economic growth and development of our society.
The NCC manages an important sector of the economy and nation, and also scarce resources of spectrum, numbering plan, short codes and host of other important activities which include but not limited to the attraction of foreign direct investment, driving innovative technologies and ensuring pervasive ICT deployment for national, economic, educational and cultural development, said Prof. Danbatta.
The NCC boss also stated that the Commission is willing to partner and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders of the industry stating in clear terms that strategic collaboration and partnership is one item of the 8-Point Agenda or Strategic Vision Plan of the Commission. The Commission will therefore partner with the University of Jos in relevant areas of concern.
Director Human Capital & Infrastructure Group at NCC, Maryam Bayi expressed appreciation for the honour to EVC/CEO NCC and stated that the NCC has been supportive to a number of schools and communities across plateau state to help bridge the digital divide gap.
