Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, EVC of NCC has been inducted as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (FNAE) at the 2018 Annual Lecture and Investiture ceremony of the NAE, holding at the University of Lagos, today, 21st June 2018.
Speaking to the media after the being conferred with the honour, Dambatta said it is an honour for the entire NCC.
“It is an honour that will spur us on to work hard in order to deliver on the mandate assigned to us by the Act establishing NCC and this act has empowered us to ensure access to communications services, access that is efficient, qualitative, as well as to ensure competition in the Nigerian space.”
Danbatta added that “we at NCC are going to put more effort, to deliver on this mandate to Nigerians.”
Furthermore, the ECV said over the past three years since taking over the helms of affairs of NCC, “we have succeeded in establishing our relevance as academics, then this honour would be seen as a testimony of our relevance not just within the University system but also within the Nigerian Communication space. I think it is important to recognize that there is a lot of talents resident within the Nigerian university system. Government has deemed it appropriate to tap these talents and bring to bear in driving the economy in the various sectors.”
“And I think this is a clear message that is coming out from the performance we have rendered over the three years, there is still a lot of talented men and women within the Nigerian University system.”
He explained that these talents can be deployed to drive the economy in the desired direction.
“There are new frameworks as I am talking to you, one in particular is on spectrum trading is out, there is going to be new data price, work is going on, we would soon release the list of licences for Value Added Services (VAS), there is quite a lot in our menu, we will be making available the content of the menu gradually,” he added.
