Nigeria is now a reference point in the chronicle of the 4th Industrial Revolution but needs to take up the challenge of re-storying the gains in the context that makes meaning by recalling how NCC shepherds the great impact of ICT and telecoms in all spheres of Nigerian life.

The foregoing prefaced the testimonial relayed this afternoon by Leye Kupoluyi, Chairman of the Specialised Exhibition Committee of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry who led a delegation from the Chamber on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Communications Commission.

Kupoluyi, said since the year 2000, the NCC as the regulatory authority of telecommunications in Nigeria has served diligently as the organiser and manager of the ICT revolution in Nigeria and he would love to put on record NCC’s renowned demonstration of support to stakeholders in the ICT ecosystem through objective collaborations, partnerships and endorsements.

Kupoluyi revealed that the objective of the visit by LCCI was to thank NCC for supporting the past four editions of the ICTEL Expo powered by LCCI, and to solicit for collaboration of the Commission in the forthcoming 2019 ICTEL Expo which will take place in Lagos from 16-17 July, 2019. Kupoluyi, who was accompanied by Babatola Adeyemi, LCCI Business Development Manager, who is concurrently the Project Manager for the 2019 Expo, declared that NCC is the infrastructure that keeps the Nigerian ICT ecology in shape. He noted that this role is particular significant because ICT can give to Nigeria more revenue and developmental mileages than petroleum.

Felicia Onwuegbuchulam, NCC’s Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau (CAB) who received the LCCI team on behalf of Prof. Umar Danbatta, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive who is attending the ongoing forum of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva, affirmed NCC’s commitment to partnership and collaboration which finds expression in the item on strategic collaboration and partnership in the 8-Point Agenda of the present Management of NCC.

Accordingly, Onwuegbuchulam told Kupoluyi and his colleagues that their request for collaboration towards the success of the ICTEL 2019 Expo will be transmitted to the EVC, so Management can explore and leverage the opportunities for collaboration in keeping with the spirit of the 8-Point Agenda.

Banji Ojo, Head Consumer Protection and Advocacy at CAB, who gave the closing remarks thanked the LCCI team for the visit, the appreciation of NCC’s role in sustaining the gains of telecommunications, and for the faith in the capacity of the Commission to continue to lead the sector aright. He said NCC always appreciate programmes that give opportunities for citizens to explore the derivable benefits of the digital economy.
