Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek Inc is now number one smartphone chipmaker in the world thanks to customers including Xiaomi‘s, Oppo, and Samsung, according to data from Omdia in DigiTimes.
MediaTek provides chips for wireless communications, high-definition television, handheld mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers, navigation systems, consumer multimedia products and digital subscriber line services as well as optical disc drives, according to Wikipedia.
The report revealed that the company shipped 351.8 million phone chipsets in 2020.
This is an increase of 113.8 million over 2020 with new global market share of 27.2% as against 17.2% in 2019.
Xiaomi‘s shipped 223% more smartphones chips in 2020 than in 2019. Oppo shipped 55.3 million devices with MediaTek chips in 2020 as against 46.3 million in 2019. And Samsung recorded over 250% in 2020 over 2019.
