Transsion-owned Tecno has toppled Samsung and Huawei to become Africa’s biggest smartphone shipper in 2020.
This is according to a latest report by Counterpoint. It added that Itel, Xiaomi, and Oppo also grew their market share portions.
Counterpoint’s data revealed that Tecno accounted for 18% of the total smartphone shipments in Africa last year. It attributed this to its affordable smartphones. On the other hand, Samsung commanded just 15% as it reportedly faced “supply chain disruptions” in the early half of 2020, Android Authority reports.

IT News Nigeria also gathered that Huawei managed to maintain its fourth place on the chart, that is 8% market share but fell behind Itel, 12%.
Further more, Xiaomi recorded huge gains in Africa 2020. Its shipment numbers grew by 126% in 2020 compared to 2019, doubling its market share to 4%. Oppo saw gains of 57% year over year, too, holding on to 4% of the market share ahead of Apple, HMD, and Realme, it added.
