Meta has been fined over $400 Million by Irish Regulator over data protection violation

IT News Nigeria:

The Irish Data Protection Commission has slapped Instagram parent company Meta $400 million for allegedly breaching data protection laws regarding child privacy on the platform.

The massive fine comes after a two-year investigation into teenagers’ phone numbers and email addresses being readily available to the public from their accounts.

Meta responded to the fine by claiming they updated the old setting that the inquiry focused on over a year ago, and insist under-18s are automatically given private accounts when signing up now
