MianOne, an Equinix company has outlined ambitious expansion plans for Nigeria and Africa market for near future.
In a passionate presentation in Lagos before technology media, its General Manager, Nigeria Sales, Olubunmi Ogun said MainOne is Equinix connection to Africa and that with over 240 data centers in 31 counties across the globe, Equinix provides unbeatable reach for seamless data access globally.
According to her, MainOne aim is to deliver best and cutting-edge data services to Nigeria and Africa leveraging on the excellent track records of Equinix.
Ogun said as regards the expansion plans, “Lekki Campus Development to deliver 10megawatt (MW) capacity by year end 2024. Lagos1 expansion to receive additional power and Lagos2 expansion to receive additional power and Rack capacity.”
Sher noted that, works are ongoing on “Lagos3 Expansion of Saka Tinubu Hub to provide full complement of Equinix interconnection services by 2024. Lagos4 Development to receive additional 6MW(megawatt) DC development.”
Speaking further, Ogun was upbeat that MainOne is working to deliver on new products and services including “AfriConnect Service offering to bring new content providers to West Africa; extension of Equinix Fabric to Lagos which will enable interconnection of Lagos Data Centers with Equinix Data Centers globally.
Global content players can only come to Nigeria if we have enabling capacity and traffic for their services. On this note, she said MainOne “partnership with AMSIX to deploy leading global internet Exchange presence in Lagos will increase local peering of traffic in Nigeria.”
Responding to questions with regard to conflict of interest with Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) at the event, MainOne’s General Counsel, Abayomi Adebanjo said MainOne understands the only way to bring big players into Nigeria and African market is to establish centers that can accommodate huge data services for global online establishments like Amazon and similar companies.
According to him, “internet Exchange presence in Lagos will attract these players to localize their content because of enabling environment that accommodate their IT infrastructure. The more internet exchange you have the better you are able to enrich the ecosystem.”
Having multiple exchanges help boost the ecosystem not against IXPN, he added.
