Lagos Motor Show has wowed audience with amazing car collections on display weekend in Nigeria commercial capital, Lagos.
In a passionate welcome address, Chief Host, Lagos Motor Show, Engr Gbenga Adebayo said we are here today to witness what I called a history, adding that “we are telling this story to show our passion for motoring.”
Detailing his passion for car, Adebayo said as a young graduate many years ago, he wrote weekly articles on motoring. “I wrote that many years addressing cars of the future. what we are seeing today is a collection of cars before independence, cars after independence and cars of today.”
Speaking further, he “what we see today is telling about cars from 1950s to 2023.” Adebayo thanked Chief Olu Okeowo for not only for opening his doors to him but also for allowing him have a collection of his cars today.
He noted that the team are showing here quite a bit of work done by our people. “We have the Large House who are installers of Land Rovers. All they do is collect Land Rover scraps and turn it into a car of the moment. We have the technology of modern electric vehicles. EVs as we know run on batteries. Today we see collections of electric vehicles.”
“We also have the Drifters; what they do is to spin the car from right to left. We also have the motor sport company. Some of the adventure cars they displayed here have participated in rallies. One succeeded after making an accident and still won the rally. We also quite a bit of machineries and all will be on displayed here., he said.
In his remarks, Car Collector, Chief Olu Okeowo thanked Adebayo for the efforts in putting the show together. He said “it takes the mind of nationalism and patriotism to put it up”, adding “a man can be seen and predicted by the type of car he drives.
Speaking further, Okeowo said “your past says a lot about your future. Nigeria is a very historical country, all we need to do is preserve the past as a legacy for the future.”
Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Muhammed Haliru Dantoro commended Gbenga Adebayo for contributing his own quota to the development of Nigeria despite the present challenges facing the country. He said “the cars on display here are cars of the past but history is being made because a lot of people are seeing them for the first time in their live.”
Dantoro urged everyone both home and abroad to imitate Gbenga Adebayo to use their passion to contribute their part for the development of Nigeria.
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries both in Lagos and other part of Nigeria on Saturday Feb 17, 2024.
