There are strong indication that Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has minimised as less that 50 staff are allowed to the offices while official activities including travelling are out rightly cancelled as part of efforts to stop the spread of the deadly Coronavirus Pandemic.
ITPulse reports that that out of the over 1500 staff of the Commission, only a scanty 50 are allowed access into the building daily.
Though no official statement was issued by the commission in this regard, a check indicates that only skeletal activities are going on at the Commission Head Office and its new annex at Mbora District, which was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari last week.
Meanwhile, apart from the special graphics which have consistently featured on the Commission’s online media platforms to educate telecom consumers and other citizens on the measures to take to prevent the spread of the contagion disease, NCC has also drawn a rooster that restricts the number of staffs at work in each Department to not more than 3 daily.
A further check revealed this measure has been observed faithfully by the management.
In addition to the measures above, the Management of the Commission also set up a committee three weeks ago, to recommend appropriate measures to take to prevent the spread of the virus among staff.
Among these measures are lots of educations, information-sharing and advisory, which are being done internally to ensure people are able to manage themselves as the reality of the dreaded disease dawn on Nigerians.
Handshake at NCC is outlawed, social distancing is preached religiously, disinfectants and sanitizers are in position at least 2 points on all floors in the Commission Head Office and its new annex at Mbora District.
The Commission has also asked its entire staff who had reasons to travel in the last two weeks to isolate themselves. And Management has canceled all official activities locally, including travels by staff, ITPulse reports..
Even emergency meetings at the office, which required sustaining telecom operations as an essential service, do not involve more than 10 persons, wearing facial masks and holding in a place that’s spacious enough to enable attendees to keep a modicum of distance from each other.
