WHO demands actions as Nigeria reports COVID-19 rising new cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said COVID-19 is back with over 357 confirmed new cases in just 3 days at a time World Health Organisation (WHO) has demanded return of Covid masks globally.

IT News Nigeria:

WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a weekly briefing Tuesday authorities should bring back masking, ventilation, and social distancing because of cases of Covid-19 are trending upward globally. 

WHO chief said “the virus is running freely, and countries are not effectively managing the disease” and it is a “public Health Emergency of International Concern’, Tedros asserted that the pandemic was “nowhere near over.”

According to report, during the week of July 4-10, 2022, over 5.7 million new cases of Covid-19 were reported, a 6% increase compared to the previous week. There were some 9,800 dead resulting from infection this period.

Tedros said there is need for national authorities to step up their efforts in “communicating risk” to the public, and called for a return of “public health social measures like masking, distancing and ventilation.”
